Rome Restaurant Recommendations

For a little more color, check out my Rome report from my trip in July 2009.

I’m leaving for a two-week trip to Italy with my sister, Christina, in a few days, and I’m trying to line up some restaurant recommendations for the 4 days that I will be in Rome. It has been over ten years since I’ve been to Rome, but Eric was there just a couple of years ago. He gave me suggestions for some of his favorite places while he was there, and we’ve managed to book reservations at several of them. They are:

  • Trattoria Monti - 39-06-446-6573.  This is a family-run operation with Mama in the back and her two sons in the front of the house.  Eric’s friend, Bill, was a regular at this place while he was working in Rome for a few months.  Frank Bruni also mentioned it in a travel article he wrote for the Times back in 2006.
  • Le Sorelle – Eric said, “I went here for lunch one day and it was amazing – the sisters came out and told me dinner is even better- come back for dinner – I was leaving so I couldn’t, but would recommend it.”
  • Renato e Luisa – This is apparently a local, low-key place.  A favorite.
  • Sora Margherita

Some enotecas:

  • Roscioli.  Via dei Giubbonari, 21-22a . It’s a grocery store, a bakery (Via dei Chiavari), wine bar and a restaurant.
  • L’Angelo Divino.  Via dei Balestrari, 12 (06686 4413 ). Navona Square/Campo de’ Fiori. True wine bar. Delicious wine, great snacks.  You will feel like a local!

I also uncovered a recent article in The Guardian about Roman Enotecas.  As always, there are too many places to go and not enough time!  If you know of any restaurants, wine bars, food shops, wine stores, wineries or  other establishments (Roman sights are ok too), please leave them in the comments!
